When did you start making gig posters? Like many poster artists, I used to make cheap photocopier flyers for shows when I was in high school, but I screenprinted my first actual poster in the summer of 2008.

Influences: I’ve long admired Francis Bacon, Käthe Kollwitz, Roy Lichtenstein, and Sue Coe, among others. I have been a near-lifelong admirer of Bill Watterson, the creator of Calvin and Hobbes. I’m also influenced quite a bit by the Chicago poster scene; there are many artists there whose respective hard work is a big part of the reason I make posters. Beyond that, I’ve spent most of my life living in suburban areas rather than in large cities, so I think things like open spaces, colonial houses, bungalows, and other related imagery show up in my work from time to time.

Preferred medium/method: All of my posters are screenprinted. I make drawings with ink on paper or clayboard and transfer them to film. Each color is either hand-drawn directly onto film or cut out of rubylith film with an X-acto knife.
